Announcements April 16- April 22, 2018

Hello Giants! Here’s what is going on at WHS:

General

  • Attending prom? Interact club would like to remind you that underage drinking is illegal. Stay sober and stay safe out there, GIANTS!
  • Congratulations to Hannah Pingel (400 meters) and Ellis Perry (300 meter Hurdles) on their first place finishes at last night’s track meet.
  • Every year people are bullied and made to feel as if they have no voice. On April 27th, join the GSA in recognition of the Day of Silence–a national campaign to come together and support one another. It is 50 cents to participate and signups will begin in lunches staring Monday, April 23rd.
  • If you are signed up to take AP Biology next year, please come by room 303 before or after school by Friday, April 20 to pick up the summer assignment.
  • Concert Choir and Lirica Bella auditions for 2018-2019 will be held after school on Tuesday, April 24 and Wednesday, April 25. Please stop by the Choral Room and pick up an audition packet and a copy of the audition song. You will also need to select an audition time on the sign up sheet.
  • Students requesting AP Calculus, AP Statistics, AP Physics, AP Computer Science or Dual Enrollment Physics next year need to see Dr. Barker.
  • Help WHS by donating blood for our final Blood Drive on May 3rd.  We need to sign at lease 30 people to achieve our goal.  Money raised goes to 2 scholarships of $500 each to seniors attending a community or 2 year school.

Clubs:

  • Counseling:
  • Counseling office has received some acceptance letters from Vo-Tech. Feel free to stop by the counseling office to see if you have a letter.
  • Valley Career and Technical Center is still accepting applications for next school year! Programs are filling up so come to the counseling office for an application or if you have questions.
  • Seniors – Over 10 local scholarships just posted online and are available in the counseling office.   This is money guaranteed to be awarded to a WHS student.  This includes the $1,000 elementary school scholarships.
  • Students interested in taking an online class this summer or next year through Virtual Virginia, please see Mrs. Shaw.
  • Juniors & Seniors interested in careers in Construction Management:  Virginia Tech’s Construction Engineering & Management Major has 100% job placement rate. They are having an open house on tomorrowApril  21st. 
  • For 2018 Augusta Health Volunteer Services will host a new week-long Teen Summer Program for high school students.  This year’s program will take place from Monday, July 9th through Friday, July 13th from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The program will introduce high school students to a variety of healthcare professions through hands-on activities.
